Why we don't believe in programs

One may it’s only a matter of semantics, but there are a few words and phrases we do not use within LifeXchange, the word programme is one of them. The problem we have with a programme (dictionary def: list of planned events) is that it has a definite starting point and ending point, thus assuming that an outcome will be reached in a specific time. But is this possible when the needs, the level of development, the trauma, the hurt, skills level, personality and history of every young person differs? A programmme serves a specific audience and it addresses a specific need (e.g. skill, education, drug addiction etc), but how can it truly address a person in a holistic fashion if it is so limited by space and time? Make no mistake, we at LifeXchange support programmes and often partner with different programme, but no one programme can lead a young person with high-risk behaviour to holistic sustainable transformation.

We see our work with every individual as a process, “a series of actions”, which leads a young person from their very specific current life situation into a life of abundance.
